Four Coast standouts set to represent Mississippi

Four of South Missisisppi's top basketball talents have been selected to represent the state in the annual Mississippi-Alabama Basketball Classic.

St. Martin guard Stacee St. Julian and Harrison Central guard Jonathan Floyd will play in the boys game, while St. Martin guard Savannah Jones and West Harrison forward Ameshya Williams will compete in the girls game.

Gulfport coach Donny Fuller has been selected as the administrative coach.

"I think it's a great opportunity and honor to be associated with it in any form or fashion," said Fuller, who has been the assistant and head coach in the past. "You get to see a lot of good players. Of course Mississippi always has good players and so does Alabama.

"We've had some great games over the years."

Jones, a South Alabama signee, helped lead St. Martin's girls to their first trip to Jackson, averaging 23.6 points, 10 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Likewise, Williams has helped West Harrison reach new heights. The Mississippi State commit led her team to the Class 5A finals Friday night.

Heading into the title game, Williams was averaging 24.8 points, 14.3 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 3.6 blocks per game. Williams ranks in the top five in the state in PPG and RPG, according to Maxpreps.com.

Boys all-stars

St. Julian and Floyd are both actively being recruited by multiple schools and remain uncommitted.

St. Julian led the Yellow Jackets in scoring at a 22.7 clip and also averaged 6.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.1 steals. Floyd, like St. Julian, was one of the more electric scorers on the Coast in 2015-16. Floyd finished his senior season averaging 19.8 points per game along with 4.4 assists and 3.5 steals.

About the games

The 26th all-star classic will return to Mississippi for the third time since 2002 on March 18 at Mississippi College's A.E. Wood Coliseum, The girls game is set for a 5 p.m. start. The boys will play at 7 p.m.

Alabama's boys and girls lead the series 14-11 and 13-12 respectively. Both games will be streamed live at FNUTL.com.
