Prep Roundup: Harrison Central earns Tuesday sweep
No. 3 Harrison Central improved to 6-1 on the season Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Central Hinds Academy and a 2-1 victory over Sumrall.
Bret Hughes came within one out of tossing a no-hitter against CHA but had to settle for a complete-game shutout after surrendering the game's lone hit with two outs in the seventh inning. Ian Colon scored the game's lone run and also recorded a double.
Against Sumrall, Jordan Harris (2-0) struck out four in a complete-game effort. Dillon Morgan tallied a double and Colon also recorded two singles and a scored a run.
West Harrison 7, Moss Point 0: Dylan Cagle struck out seven to earn the win for West Harrison (5-2). Harley Beech hit a double, Tate Parker hit a triple and tallied an RBI, Kasey Donaldson hit a double with four RBIs and Cade Simon recorded two hits.
St. Martin 5, Vancleave 3: Chance Groue (2-1) struck out eight in for St. Martin (4-3). Groue, Isaac Williams and R.J. Fletcher all tallied RBIs in the win. Williams also stole a base.
Stone County 6, Bay High 3: Tristan Parker picked up the win for Stone, while Preston Stringer, Mason hunt and Steven Hartfield all tallied hits. Hunter Clark tallied a single, double, RBI and picked up the save with two strikeouts for the Tomcats. Gage Kiser led Bay High (4-3) with two hits. The Tigers return to the Diamond on Thursday to play West Harrison at MGM Park, weather permitting.
Softball
Hancock 1, D'Iberville 0: Lexi Turner drove in the game's lone run for Hancock (4-2) and Kaylan Ladner (3-1) struck out 13 in the victory.
Biloxi 15, Bay 0: Olivia Holley pitched a four-hit shutout for Biloxi (5-1-1) while striking out four. Carlie Vice hit a two-run homer, a solo homer and a double.
