Prep roundup: Nelms pitches Gulfport past Northwest Rankin

Southern Miss signee Alex Nelms had another strong performance for Gulfport (5-2) on Monday. Nelms threw a complete-game shutout in the Admirals' 8-0 win. He struck out eight while allowing just four hits.

Blake Johnson hit a single and a double. C.J. Keckler had a single with two RBIs.

Long Beach 1, East Central 0: Josh Borzig picked up the complete-game win for Long Beach, striking out nine while scattering four hits. Colin Danley struck out four for East Central.

Brandon 5, St. Stanislaus 2: Luke Bradley tallied two hits, but SSC (2-4) couldn't knock off Brandon.

West Harrison softball 7, St. Martin 1: Stephanie Necaise improved to 3-0 with a complete-game effort for WHHS (4-2). She struck out six in seven innings. Lauren Jackson, Rebecca Cuevas and Jada Walker each had two hits. Sydney-Brooke Sims had a team-high three RBIs.

Other scores: Gulfport softball fell to Pearl River Central 4-3.
