D'Iberville's Cade Ross, St. Martin's Savannah Jones named Sun Herald Players of the Week
D'Iberville's Cade Ross and St. Martin's Savannah Jones came up big for their teams during their respective post-season pushes this past week.
For their efforts, the Warrior and Lady Yellow Jacket were named Sun Herald Players of the Week.
Ross, a senior, set or tied several state powerlifting records last weekend during the Class 6A South State meet, hosted at Gulfport High School.
The 185-pound lifter set new state records with a 655-pound squat and 1,655 total points. He also tied the deadlift mark with his 685-pound lift.
Jones, a South Alabama signee, has really shined for St. Martin (28-2) this season. Saturday, the prolific scorer had one of her best performances of the season, netting 36 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the floor to lift St. Martin past Columbus 67-56 in the Class 6A quarterfinals.
In addition to converting two 3-pointers, Jones really loaded up at the free-throw line, making 18 of 21 attempts. She also registered seven rebounds and three assists.
St. Martin will play in its first final four matchup at noon Wednesday against Callaway (22-9).
