Prep Roundup: Gulfport's Travis McNett no-hits Poplarville

Gulfport senior right-hander Travis McNett threw a no-hitter as Gulfport beat Poplarville 14-1 in five innings Monday night at the Pearl River CC tournament in Poplarville.

McNett struck out seven batters in five innings on his way to his first win of the season.

"He threw his fastball, cutter and slider," Gulfport coach Jamie McMahon said. "He pitched. He located all three of his pitches."

Southern Miss signee Alex Nelms had a big game at the plate with a single, double and a 3-run home run for a 5-RBI night. McNett and Kevin Carter both had a pair of singles for Gulfport (4-0)

Gulfport 7, Bay High 2: Holden McHugh picked up the win on the pitcher's mound in Gulfport's first game of the day at Poplarville.

McNett, Patrick Nelms and Blake Johnson all had a pair of hits for the Admirals.

Dustin Davis was the losing pitcher for Bay High.

Hancock 9, Taylorsville 4: Landon Jordan had a pair of hits and a triple with 3 RBIs to lead the Hawks (2-1). Brindon Hoda picked up the win on the pitcher's mound in the game, which was part of a tournament at Petal.
