George County overcame a 20-point first deficit to beat Pearl 67-64 in the second round of the Class 6A state basketball playoffs on Saturday.

The Rebels (17-6) earned their first trip to the State tourmament in almost 25 years. George County will play in a 6A state quarterfinal game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Mississippi Coliseum.

"This team never quit," Rebels coach Ron Renfroe said. "Pearl hit some big shots early. We didn't think they'd shoot the ball like that coming out, but they did. I figured if we could chip away at their big lead, we'd have a shot. Rashad made some big three-pointers in the fourth quarter for us."

LaRaymond Spivery led the Rebels with 20 points. Rashad Wiggins added 19 points and Tyrese Fryfogle scored 16 for the Region 7-6A champions.
