PREP ROUNDUP: East Central girls pick up 1st playoff win in program history

The East Central girls basketball team picked up the first playoff victory in the history of the program, 56-53, in overtime at Forrest County AHS.

Sania Wells scored nine points points in overtime to help the Lady Hornets finish off the win in Brooklyn.

"The whole community is very happy," East Central coach Wes Brewer said. "The kids are extremely happy and emotional."

The Lady Hornets came through in the clutch, hitting 12 of 14 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Madison Pearson added 14 points for East Central (15-11) while Casey Norton and Cayce Fulton both scored eight points.

East Central will travel to Florence at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Picayune girls 53, Long Beach 25: The Maroon Tide ladies picked up an easy win in the first round behind 20 points from Maya Whitehead. Alana Smith added nine points for Picayune (19-8), which will travel to West Jones on Friday.

Pascagoula girls 41, Stone High 33: Jailin Cherry scored 16 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers to a first-round win. Cherry, who also had five steals, had 14 rebounds on offense and six on defense. Alexis McBeath added 10 points for Pascagoula, which travels to Provine at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Moss Point girls 62, Sumrall 40: The Lady Tigers (9-19) will travel to play Quitman at 7 p.m. on Friday in the second round after picking up the road win at Sumrall. LaMiracle Sims had 20 points and 25 rebounds to lead Moss Point and Celia Rogers added 19 points.

Port Gibson 46, St. Patrick 28: The season came to an end for the Fighting Irish with a record of 20-9.

Pass Christian 44, Greene County 38: The Lady Pirates picked up the win and will travel to McComb in the second round of the playoffs.
