Pass Christian's Leaks, Williams of West Harrison named Sun Herald Players of the Week

Pass Christian senior guard Maliq Leaks and West Harrison senior Ameshya Williams are the Sun Herald Players of the Week after leading their teams to region titles a week ago.

Leaks is the Boys Player of the Week after scoring 14 points to lead the Pirates to a 47-40 win over Bay High in the Region 8-4A title game on Friday at St. Stanislaus. Leaks hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to close out the victory.

Leaks also had 10 points in a 58-37 win over Vancleave in the semifinals.

The Region 8-4A MVP is averaging 10.9 points and 3.5 assists for the Pirates this season.

Williams, a 6-foot-3 forward, had another huge week in leading the Lady Hurricanes to the Class 8-5A region title.

She scored 33 points in a 45-35 win over Pascagoula in the 8-5A title game on Friday.

Williams also scored 10 points in a 45-14 victory over Gautier in the opening round of the tournament.

Jan. 26: Carl Terrell (Gulfport) and Jamaya Galloway (Bay High).

Jan. 19: Darius Johnson (Pascagoula) and Deona Morgan (St. Martin).

Jan. 12: Dillyn Neely (D'Iberville) and Savannah Jones (St. Martin).
