BILOXI - KeJerrick Taylor scored 15 and Enriques Milton 14 points as Provine beat St. Martin 62-52 at Hoopsfest Saturday.

With the Yellow Jackets (18-8) holding an early 13-10 lead, the Rams (15-7) took control of the game behind Milton and Kahlil Johnson on a 13-0 run to close the quarter and give Provine a 23-13 lead. Taylor also hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter for Provine.

Provine, after a 9-6 start, has now won five of their last six games, the only loss coming at Brookhaven 65-64 earlier this month

"We're building toward a late run," said Rams coach Otis Gaines. "You try to build toward the end of the season. At the end of the year, you hope to be playing your best basketball. We are making progress, but there are still some things we need to work out."

St. Martin coach Charlie Pavlus felt the Yellow Jackets didn't play good defense, particularly during Provine's 13-0 run that gave them control of the game.

"We missed a lot of free throws and we didn't shoot the ball well from the perimeter," Pavlus said. "It was a great challenge against Provine. We didn't take advantage of it. You play all these games to get to Jackson. We have to continue to get better. But we are still playing good basketball."

Johnson finished with 10 points for Provine.

Only five players scored for St. Martin, led by 15 from Jalen Lett, including 10 in the second half. Johnnelius Anderson notched 14 points, with eight points in the second quarter to keep St. Martin close. Stacee St. Julian finished with 12 points.
