Brandi Szegeti set the tone by scoring two minutes in and Ocean Springs' girls toppled Oak Grove 3-0 in Monday's Class 6A first-round soccer matchup.
"I think the difference in the game was we were able to get behind their back line," OSHS coach Patrick Hayes said. "Brandi put up a Hail Mary and it just happened to find the back of the net and I think that really got us on the right track."
Kelsay Himel added goals in the 14th and 69th minutes to cap the scoring, and Karsen Gildea made 11 saves to preserve the shutout.
With the win, OSHS (14-5-2 overall) advances to face the winner of Pearl/Biloxi.
