Pascagoula's Johnson, Morgan of St. Martin named Sun Herald Players of Week
Pascagoula senior guard Darius Johnson and St. Martin senior guard Deona Morgan are the Sun Herald Players of the Week after leading their teams to undefeated weeks.
Johnson is the Boys Player of the Week after averaging 13.7 points to lead the Panthers to a 3-0 mark last week.
He scored 16 points in a crucial 50-48 win over West Harrison a week ago in the Region 8-5A opener for the Panthers (12-4, 2-0).
Johnson also scored 16 points as the Panthers came from behind for a 61-54 victory over Quitman in the Chevron Classic at Pascagoula on Saturday. Quitman led the game 34-25 at halftime.
Pascagoula also beat Long Beach 74-49 on Friday.
Morgan is the Girls Player of the Week after averaging 22 points in a pair of wins for the Lady Jackets last week.
Morgan had 19 points and four assists in a 64-37 win at George County on Jan. 12 and 25 points, five assists and six steals in a 63-62 overtime win over rival Ocean Springs on Friday.
Morgan is averaging 11.8 points and 4.1 assists this season for No. 1 St. Martin (19-2, 3-0).
