St. Martin's Jones, Neely of D'Iberville earn Sun Herald Players of the Week
St. Martin senior forward Savannah Jones and D'Iberville sophomore guard Dillyn Neely are the Sun Herald Players of the Week for their impressive single-game performances a week ago.
Jones is the Girls Player of the Week after scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Jackets pulled away for a 56-42 win over D'Iberville on Friday.
Jones is averaging 25.1 points and 9.7 rebounds a game for No. 1 St. Martin, which is 17-2 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-6A play.
Neely is the Boys Player of the Week after putting on an impressive shooting performance in D'Iberville's 62-58 win over St. Martin on Friday. He hit 7-of-8 3-pointers and finished with 22 points.
Neely entered Friday's contest averaging only 3.1 points a game.
D'Iberville, which is the new No. 1 in this week's Sun Herald Top 10, is 14-3 and 2-0 in Region 7-6A competition.
The Warriors have won nine of their last 10 games after winning only 10 games in each of the last two seasons.
