Prep Roundup: Red Rebelettes storm back to overtake Gulfport
Harrison Central overcame a 14-point deficit to beat Gulfport 39-35 on Friday night in Lyman.
The Lady Admirals (11-8, 0-1 Region 8-6A) appeared to have the game well in hand, scoring the final six points of the first half to push their lead to 23-12. Gulfport pushed its lead to as much as 33-19 heading into the final frame, but the Red Rebelettes (12-6, 2-0) came storming back.
Led by Teara Leshore and Adyn Strickland, Harrison Central roared back. Three free throws from Keyshauna Johnson at the end sealed the win. Chyna Allen had a game-high 15 points. Gulfport was led by Amyjah Hardnett's 10-point effort.
"I was just proud of my girls," HCHS coach Nancy Ladner said. "They didn't quit and didn't lay down."
Bay High girls 80, Long Beach 42: Jamaya Galloway scored 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Lady Tigers (11-6). Simone Jackson added 17 points and seven rebounds, Aerion Dority had 16 points, Dasha Barnes added 12 points and seven rebounds. Nicole Brock led Long Beach with 15 points.
St. Martin girls 56, D'Iberville 42: Savannah Jones scored 28 points to lead the Lady Jackets. Casey Ferguson led the Lady Warriors with 22 points.
Pass Christian girls 44, Vancleave 21: Melanie Ausmer scored 15 for the Lady Pirates (7-12, 1-1 Region 8-4A).
Ocean Springs girls 43, George County 29: D.J. Blackston scored 11 points to lead the Lady Greyhounds.
West Harrison girls 45, Gautier 26: Ameysha Williams scored 17 points, Vin'Sha Hatcher added 14 for the Lady Hurricanes.
Biloxi girls 37, Hancock 32: Breanna Riley scored 16 points for the Lady Indians (6-10, 1-0 Region 8-6A). Alexis McDaniel added 12, Dallas Dobard grabbed 13 rebounds for Biloxi. Madison Ladner led Hancock with nine points.
Pass Christian 69, Vancleave 45: Jaylen Peters scored 17 points as Pass Christian won at home. Aaron Whavers added 16 for the Pirates (13-4, 4-0 Region 8-4A). Trevor Davis led Vancleave (12-3, 1-1) with 15 points, while Xavier Bass added 12.
West Harrison 39, Gautier 35: Deanthony Bowie scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds and made five assists to lead the Hurricanes.
