Reports: Moss Point's Tony Sipp cashes in with Astros
Moss Point native Tony Sipp has reportedly cashed in on a standout 2015 season. According to The Houston Chronicle, the left-handed reliever has agreed to a three-year contract with the Houston Astros worth $18 million.
The new contract will be quite a raise for Sipp, who earned $2.4 million in 2015 according to Baseball-Reference.com.
The 32-year-old left-hander had a career season while helping get the Astros reach the playoffs. In 54 1/3 innings, Sipp posted a 1.99 ERA with 62 strikeouts and a 3-4 record.
Sipp was signed by the Astros in May 2014 after being released by San Diego. Sipp had a 3.38 ERA in 50 2/3 innings in 2014, striking out 63. Prior to playing for Houston, Sipp pitched for Arizona and made his Major League debut in 2009 with Cleveland.
