Sun Herald Defensive Player of the Week: Pascagoula DB Devonte Thompson

Pascagoula senior defensive back Devonte Thompson had his biggest game of the season in Friday's 36-8 victory over Brookhaven in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Thompson accounted for two interceptions and a blocked punt, which he returned for a touchdown at War Memorial Stadium.

Thompson's blocked punt came at the 9:59 mark of the second quarter, picking the ball up and running into the end zone to make it 16-0. He was unblocked on the play, allowing him to run free and bat down the punt.

The Pascagoula defense set the tone in Friday's victory, holding Brookhaven to three-and-outs on all four first-half possessions.
