Sun Herald offensive player of the week: D'Iberville RB I'zayiah Jacob

Running back I'zayiah Jacob was the surprise star in D'Iberville's 34-33 upset victory over St. Martin on Friday night at Joe Barlow Stadium.

Jacob had 242 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns, helping D'Iberville (6-6, 4-3) earn the final playoff spot in Region 4-6A.

"We had to play well and beat St. Martin because we didn't want to send Coach Buddy Singleton out losing," Jacob said.

The senior ran for 188 yards, scoring on runs of 80 and 54 yards and adding a 54-yard TD reception. All three of Jacob's scoring plays, he outran a speedy St. Martin defensive squad to the end zone.

"Jacob had three big touchdowns for us," Warriors coach Buddy Singleton said.
