Picayune dominates Stone High, 51-14

PERKINSTON -- Despite being without running back Josh Littles, Picayune defeated Stone High 51-14 on Friday night at A.L. May Stadium.

Junior quarterback Skylar Bowman plunged into the end zone on a 1-yard quarterback sneak two seconds into the second quarter.

Picayune (5-3, 4-0 Region 4-5A) never trailed, leading the entire game after the 11:58 mark in the second quarter.

Kicker Jackson Samples' 20-yard field goal made it 10-0 with 7:05 in the second quarter.

Bowman's second 1-yard run with late in the second quarter gave the Maroon Tide a 16-0 halftime lead.

Blake Merrifield scored touchdowns from 21 yards and two yards in the third quarter. Bowman hooked up with Vyron Brown for a 32-yard touchdown play early in the third quarter, with Picayune leading 37-0.

Merrifield had seven rushes for 120 yards and two scores to lead the Maroon Tide.

The Tomcats (2-6, 0-4) pounced on a botched punt attempt by the Maroon Tide. Linebacker Ereon Harris fell on the ball in the end zone, closing the gap to 37-7 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, fullback David Baker's 9-yard touchdown run and T.J. Polk's 4-yard touchdown run closed the scoring for Picayune.

"I thought we did a lot of good things," Picayune coach Dodd Lee said. "I thought our effort was good. Our week of practice wasn't real good, but our kids, I thought their effort-level was high."

Picayune entertains Long Beach next week. The Tomcats host West Harrison at A.L. May Stadium.
