Southern Miss football offers scholarship to Golden Eagle legend's son

The Southern Miss football staff has offered a scholarship to a son of one of the best defensive players to ever suit up for the Golden Eagles.

Plantation, Fla., defensive back Patrick Surtain Jr. announced Wednesday that he has received a scholarship from USM.

Patrick Surtain Sr. was a star cornerback at USM and

I ranked him last year as the best defensive back in the history of Conference USA.

Patrick Surtain Jr. is set to graduate from American Heritage High School in 2018.

It will be take quite the effort from USM to land the cornerback considering he already holds offers from LSU and Miami. 

Patrick Surtain Sr. played at USM from 1995-97 and received several All-American honors as a senior. He had 16 career interceptions.

Patrick Surtain Sr. earned three Pro Bowl selections with the Miami Dolphins and finished his 11-year NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
