Pair of MS Coast teams storm Jackson for baseball championship games

Pearl River County gets two representatives in Jackson.

Poplarville and Pearl River Central will compete for 4A and 6A baseball state championships at Trustmark Park this week.

The Hornets are after history in the 4A bracket. Poplarville overcame 1-0 series deficits against Newton County and Greene County before sweeping West Lauderdale for the South State title in order to reach the final round for the first time since 1974.

Poplarville faces Mooreville with a chance to be the first team in program history to hang a state championship banner.

Pearl River Central won its first state title in 2017 and reverse swept a strong George County team in the South State round to earn its chance at a second championship against Saltillo.

Here’s the schedule for each three-game series.
