Two MS Coast teams off to Hattiesburg in search of softball titles
George County’s title defense campaign has made its way to Hattiesburg, as has Ocean Springs’ quest for history.
The reigning 6A champs meet South Panola with a chance to make it two state championships in as many seasons and the Greyhounds face Hernando in their hunt for the first state title in program history.
The Rebels are led by an experienced lineup with four batters hitting north of .350 and senior pitcher Addison Davis, who recently became the school’s first to cross 200 strikeouts in a season.
South Panola is enjoying a 30-win season featuring 50 hits from freshman Olivia Phillips and Miss Softball winner Grady Beck Wilson’s 298 strikeouts.
Ocean Springs claimed its first South State championship with a sweep of Northwest Rankin. The Greyhounds have their own veteran squad with three different 40-hit batters and two-way ace Emma Franklin leading the way.
The Tigers have finished as runner-ups in each of the last two seasons and are back again behind the pitching of Olivia Skinner and a lineup with four players above 40 hits.
All games will be played in Hattiesburg at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.
