Saint Stanislaus blasts Quitman, captures Class 3A boys basketball championship

Rock on.

Saint Stanislaus captured its first boys basketball state championship since 2011 with a 49-36 victory Saturday over Quitman at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

The victory is the 14th in a row for the Rock-a-Chaws (31-4) and makes 2026 the first time in 17 years that two Mississippi Coast schools have captured basketball championships in the same year. Pascagoula broke the Coast’s long title drought on Friday in the boys 6A final.

It is also the first Gold Ball for the Saint Stanislaus boys since 2011, a championship team that featured the Rock-a-Chaws’ current head coach, Daniel Grieves, and assistant coach Ramone Tate. Grieves was wearing his championship ring from 2011 during the game.

Rafael Cohen was the star of this title game, with a game-high 22 points, while Max Baria had a strong game in the post, putting up 11 points and hauling down seven rebounds.

Saint Stanislaus held the lead throughout, jumping to an 8-0 to start the game and Quitman never got closer than three points the rest of the way.
