Saint Stanislaus slays 4-time champ Booneville, earns spot in Class 3A boys final
Saint Stanislaus is back in the championship game.
The Rock-a-Chaws kept Booneville in the rearview mirror throughout a 49-41 win in Wednesday’s Class 3A boys basketball semifinal in Jackson.
It was the 30th win of the year for SSC, which now has a chance to win its first title since 2011, when its current coach Danny Grieves was a player at the school.
Saint Stanislaus snapped Booneville’s chokehold on 3A in the process, putting an end to the Blue Devils’ reign of four straight state championships.
Rafael Cohen led SSC with 17 points while Alan Gilliam contributed with 11. Max Baria logged a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 boards.
The Rocks will play the winner of Quitman and Thomas Edwards for a Gold Ball on Saturday.
