St. Patrick earns fourth straight girls’ soccer title, sets legacy of perfection
St. Patrick’s senior class will leave a legacy of perfection after the Lady Irish captured their fourth consecutive Class I state championship Friday.
Bella Jordan scored the first goal in a tightly contested, 2-0 win over St. Andrew’s at Ridgeland High School in Jackson. Nora Mestayer scored on a late free kick and Samantha Johnson secured the shutout inn goal.
“We have a lot of seniors, and they wanted it really bad this year,” coach Angela McClure said after the game. “We talked about leaving a legacy this year and making this the best year yet and they were really committed to doing that.”
The Lady Irish are graduating 11 seniors that won a state title each year of their high school careers.
The class won 77 games under two head coaches, including a perfect 30-0 in district play. Its final postseason was a dominant stretch during which it outscored opponents 21-1.
“We’re going to miss them,” McClure said. “They had a goal, and they achieved it.”
Jordan was named MVP of the title match for her efforts.
