The first Athlete of the Week poll of the new year is live.
As always, you can nominate any athlete for an upcoming poll by sending their name, sport and stats from the seven days immediately preceding the day of the next poll to sports@sunherald.com.
This week our nominees feature players from Biloxi, Christian Collegiate, Ocean Springs, Picayune, St. Patrick and West Harrison.
This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon Monday, Jan. 12.

Zaniya Johnson, Biloxi girls basketball: Johnson recorded her 6th double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds in a 56-46 win against Tupelo.
Tahj Hill, Christian Collegiate boys basketball: Hill scored 20 points and secured a double-double with 10 rebounds in a win against Stone.
Starr Jackson, Ocean Springs girls basketball: Jackson scored 22 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 7 assists in a win over Baker (Al.).
Kelton Stewart, Picayune boys basketball: Stewart had 17 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds in the Tide’s win against Salmen (La.).
Alex Patino, St. Patrick girls basketball: Patino poured in 34 points in a 55-35 win over Mary G. Montgomery (Al.).
Logan Robinson, West Harrison boys basketball: Robinson scored 16 points with 6 rebounds and 6 steals in a win against Long Beach.
