South MS high school football Week 10 scoreboard: 3 region titles are captured
It finally feels like football weather outside and just in time for the end of the season.
Class 1A through 4A played their final regular season games on Thursday and the upper classifications have just two weeks remaining before the playoffs.
The biggest games of this week included a potential region decider between Gulfport and D’Iberville and a key R4-6A contest between Pascagoula and Hancock.
Region champs crowned Friday
GULFPORT 38, D’IBERVILLE 35: Gulfport built a 17-point fourth-quarter lead and then watched as D’Iberville nearly pulled off the seemingly impossible. The Warriors scored a touchdown and then recovered an onside kick and scored another touchdown. Gulfport, though, was able to hold on to win the game and capture the 4-7A championship.
PICAYUNE 35, GAUTIER 31: Picayune’s defense came up with a big defensive stop late in the fourth quarter and the Maroon Tide’s punishing ground game closed out the victory. With the win, Picayune improved to 8-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Region 4-6A. More importantly, the Tide captured another region championship. The victory is the 28th-straight in region play for Picayune and the region title is the Tide’s fifth in a row.
STONE 17, NORTHEAST JONES 7: It was a tight game for much of the way, with the Tomcats standing tall and improving to 4-0 in Region 4-5A play and capturing the region championhip with a victory over Northeast Jones.
