Best of Week 1: St. Martin standouts among South Mississippi’s brightest stars
These were the top performers from Week 1 of the South Mississippi high school football season.
Chan Harvey, D’Iberville: Harvey needed just five carries to tally 89 yards and two scores in a 14-6 win over Raleigh.
Latrell Pogue, Gautier: Pogue rushed seven times for 126 yards and two touchdowns in the Gators’ 35-0 win over George County.
Keon McNeil, Gautier: The freshman made his first varsity start, totaling 151 yards of offense and two scores.
Gabe Millender, Gautier: Millender totaled 12 tackles and a pass breakup for the Gators.
Cooper Crosby, Gulfport: Crosby scored three touchdowns in the 31-28 loss to Picayune. Two of them came on the ground where he gained 137 yards in 10 carries and the third on a 99-yard kick return.
Chalmers Berglind, Ocean Springs: The sophomore got the start at quarterback and threw for 226 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-0 win over Meridian.
Ian Michael Harlan, Ocean Springs: Harlan caught three passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns, his longest a 75-yard catch.
Brody Saenz, Ocean Springs: The linebacker recorded 12 tackles and five of them, including one sack, in Meridian’s backfield during a 35-0 win.
Paris Trivillion, Pass Christian: Trivillion threw for 250 yards and four touchdowns in leading a 49-14 win over Long Beach.
Dwight Thomas, Pass Christian: Thomas was Trivillion’s top target, catching 10 passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns.
Xavier Dennis, Picayune: Dennis scored a 25-yard rushing touchdown and caught an 11-yard touchdown in the win over Gulfport.
Ty Keys, Poplarville: Keys scored three rushing touchdowns for the Hornets in a 34-18 loss to West Harrison.
Bryson Meaut, St, Martin: The junior turned seven carries into 146 yards and a pair of scores in the Yellow Jackets’ 64-21 win over Vancleave.
Seth Crockett, St. Martin: Crockett was responsible for 370 total yards of offense and five touchdowns in the win. The sophomore threw for 183 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 164 yards and four touchdowns.
Cameron Romero, St. Martin: Romero caught four passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Kevin Marshall, St. Martin: Marshall produced 83 yards on offense and on defense made eight tackles and forced one fumble.
Dawsey Sullivand, St. Martin: The freshman debuted with five catches for 63 yards and one rush for 14.
Dawsen Sullivan, St. Martin: A freshman quarterback, Sullivan completed each of his six pass attempts with two resulting in a score. He also added a rushing touchdown.
Ayden Green, Stone: Green averaged 18 yards per carry in the win over Hancock, leading the Coast with 273 rushing yards with three touchdowns. He also caught a 77 yard touchdown pass.
Liam Richards, St. Patrick: Richards rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries in snapping the Fighting Irish’s 14-game losing streak with a 40-0 win over Christian Collegiate. Richards also returned a punt for a score.
Kyle Capers, Vancleave: Capers picked up 118 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts in the loss to St. Martin.
Jordan Stapleton, West Harrison: The senior back found the end zone four times with three coming on the ground in the win over Poplarville. Stapleton ran for 179 yards and added 81 receiving yards.
