Moss Point native and NBA superstar signs historic contract extension
Moss Point High School product Devin Booker has rewritten professional sports history.
The Phoenix Suns guard signed a two year, maximum veteran contract extension worth $145 million Wednesday, earning an NBA extension salary record $72.5 million per season.
Booker surpasses current NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the record and will earn more annually than any NFL player and the entire combined active payroll of baseball’s Miami Marlins.
Booker, 28, is the Suns all-time scoring leader and is currently on his second contract extension, a supermax deal that runs through 2027-28. The four-time all star has earned north of $215 million in his career, according to spotrac.com.
Booker starred at Moss Point for three seasons, beginning in 2011. He averaged 22.8 points a game as a sophomore and became just the second 10th-grader to be named Sun Herald Player of the Year. He made it two in a row as a junior and added the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year to his accolades after scoring 29.7 points a game.
Booker became Moss Point’s all-time leading scorer during his senior year and earned a spot on the USA Today All-USA team. Booker would join a Kentucky signing class that also featured Karl-Anthony Towns.
