Who will be the Mississippi Coast Athlete of the Week for March 3? Vote now in our poll

March is here and spring is just around the corner. Diamond sports have taken center stage and soon flag football will be joining for the first time in state history.

Mississippi Coast athletes are nominated this week baseball and softball and the final basketball games out of East Central, George County, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula and Hancock. This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon Monday, March 10, at sunherald.com.

Get to know the nominees here:

  • Porter Martin, East Central baseball: Martin pitched a complete game shutout with five strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Long Beach.
  • Peyton Collins, George County softball: The sophomore pitched 14.2 innings across three games, allowing just three hits and zero runs while striking out 26 batters.
  • Teegan DeWitt, Hancock softball: DeWitt tossed 16 innings over three games, striking out 37 batters and allowing only one run.
  • Gracie McDonald, Ocean Springs softball: McDonald recorded four hits and drove in seven runs with two triples and a double in a win over Greene County.
  • Blake Nettles, Pascagoula boys basketball: Nettles scored 19 points and grabbed five boards in the Panthers’ overtime loss to Ridgeland in the Final Four.
