South MS routinely produces college baseball stars. Here are 10 of this year’s biggest
Baseball season is finally returning on the Mississippi Coast.
The new season begins this month and the region that routinely produces next-level talent will feature many athletes already committed to continue their careers in 2025.
The Coast has produced a state champion in six of the last nine complete seasons and has a pair of programs defending titles this season in Vancleave and George County.
Those schools are stocked with talent that will toe the rubber, patrol the grass and step into boxes across the Lower Six counties.
Here are some of the top players to watch from the Mississippi Coast in 2025:
- Tripp Lightsey, George County: The Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. commit led the Rebels with 46 hits as a junior, with 30 RBIs.
- Ben Davis, George County: The reigning 6A Player of the Year racked up 40 hits a year ago and led the team with 17 stolen bases. Davis is an MGCCC commit.
- Canyon Reeves, George County: One half of the Rebels’ elite 1-2 rotation punch, the sidearm Jones College commit cut down 64 batters in 55.1 innings last year, while posting a 0.63 ERA.
- Preston McAdory, George County: The other half of that duo, McAdory worked a 1.19 ERA with 79 strikeouts during the Rebels’ state championship season. McAdory is a Pearl River CC commit.
- Jaxson Knight, Hancock: Knight was the Sun Herald’s Underclassmen of the Year in 2024 after leading the Coast in doubles with 15 out of his 31 hits. Knight batted .403 and struck out 15 batters in 19 innings on the mound.
