The temperatures are dropping, but the action is heating up along the Coast. It’s time to vote for the next Athlete of the Week.
Mississippi Coast athletes from the gridiron to the hardwood are nominated this week from Biloxi, Gautier, Harrison Central, Picayune, Poplarville and St. Patrick.
This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon Monday, Dec. 9, at sunherald.com.
Get to know the nominees here:
- Jayla Carriere, Biloxi girls basketball: Carriere scored 28 points with three rebounds in leading the Indians in a win over Terry.
- Trey Irving, Gautier football: Irving completed 26 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns in the Gators’ South State title win over Brookhaven.
- Shaun Murray, Harrison Central boys basketball: Murray led the Red Rebels with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals in a win over Tylertown.
- Laikyn Moore, Picayune girls basketball: Moore led the Tide with 16 points in a win over Hattiesburg.
- Ty Keys, Poplarville football: Keys rushed for 159 yards and two scores in the Hornets’ South State championship win over Forest.
- Alex Patino, St. Patrick girls basketball: Patino is back in the poll after pouring in 29 points in a win over Pearl River Central and 37 in a win against Lamar Christian.
