The first all-sports Athlete of the Week poll of the academic year is here.
Mississippi Coast athletes from the gridiron to the hardwood are nominated this week from Biloxi, Gautier, Ocean Springs, Picayune, Resurrection Catholic, St. Patrick and St. Martin.
This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon Monday, Dec. 2, at sunherald.com.

- Zaniya Johnson, Biloxi girls basketball: Johnson scored 20 points and hauled in 13 boards in the Indians’ 49-12 win over Bay High.
- Fred Nicholson, Gautier football: Nicholson had 12 tackles and blocked a fourth quarter extra point to seal the Gators’ 28-27 win over Wayne County.
- Bryant Ausmer, Ocean Springs football: Ausmer made 12 tackles, five tackles for loss and four sacks in the Greyhounds’ 27-14 win over Oak Grove.
- Triston Cooper, Picayune football: Cooper scored four rushing touchdowns on offense and recorded five tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a fumble recovery on defense in a 56-28 win over George County.
- Tyrese Ricardo, Resurrection Catholic boys basketball: Ricardo dropped 50 points with 15 rebounds in a 76-63 win over St. Luke’s (Al.).
- Alex Patino, St. Patrick girls basketball: Patino scored 25 points and added four steals and four assists in a 49-45 win against Ocean Springs.
- RJ Keys, St. Martin boys basketball: Keys averaged 17.7 points per game across three wins last week and poured in 23 points with seven rebounds and five assists against Petal.
