Who will be the Mississippi Coast Athlete of the Week for Feb. 5? It’s up to you

February is here and it brings with it one of the busiest times of the year. Tournament play begins for both basketball and soccer, athletes compete in state wrestling competitions and diamonds are prepared for the baseball and softball seasons.

Nominees this week are from Harrison Central, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, St. Patrick, Vancleave, Hancock and Gulfport.

This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon on Feb. 12, at sunherald.com.

  • Aujaylen Barron, Harrison Central boys basketball: Barron scored 29 points with three steals in a 75-26 win over St. Martin.
  • Ocean Springs boys wrestling: The Greyhounds captured their third straight dual state title over the weekend.
  • Amir Abdul-Rauf, Gulfport boys basketball: Abdul-Rauf scored 23 points against Pass Christian and reached 1,000 career points.
  • Brooklyn Cuevas, Hancock girls basketball: Cuevas scored 21 points for the Hawks in a 42-29 win over Harrison Central.
  • Reggie Conner, Biloxi boys basketball: Connor scored 21 points in a 56-51 win over Ocean Springs.
  • Jordyn Hoda, Vancleave girls soccer: Hoda scored two goals and assisted on another in a 4-0 win over Laurel.
  • Matt Krass, St. Patrick boys basketball: Krass scored 22 points in leading the Irish over rival St. Stanislaus.
