Tim Lala steps away from St. Stanislaus football to stay closer to home after son’s birth
St. Stanislaus head football coach Tim Lala is stepping away after one season at the helm, according to a post he shared on Twitter and Facebook.
Lala’s Rock-a-Chaws went 9-2 in 2023, and won their first district title since 2016. St. Stanislaus allowed a 19-year best 16.3 points per game en route to the program’s second trip to the second round of the playoffs in as many years.
“I’ve been telling anyone that’s willing to listen that SSC and Tim Lala are a match made in heaven and I believe that to my core,” Lala said in his social media post.
According to the post, Lala made the “unbelievably difficult decision” to leave in order to be closer to family. Lala’s wife, Ari, recently gave birth to a baby boy to go along with a 2-year-old son. The family’s home is located in Pascagoula, where Lala previously worked as an assistant under Lewis Sims at PHS.
“His birth has helped me gain fresh perspective about the toll that the distance between our home and the amazing place that is St. Stanislaus College was taking on my family,” Lala’s post read.
Lala previously coached at SSC for one season in 2015 when the Rock-a-Chaws were state title runner-ups. St. Stanislaus will begin its search for its third football coach in three years.
