Meet the MS Coast boys and girls Athlete of the Year chosen in Sun Herald fan vote
The final honor for the 2022-23 academic year has been handed out by the readers.
The Fan’s Choice Athletes of the Year go to a pair of state champions who led their team’s to the ultimate prize. George County softball’s Irina Sanford and Bay High soccer’s Aiden Boudro each won their respective poll to claim the honor of being South Mississippi’s top athletes.
Boudro, the Sun Herald’s boy’s soccer Player of the Year, scored in every playoff game and finished the season with 24 goals with 11 assists. His efforts helped bring the Tigers the 4A title.
Sanford was also a Sun Herald select Player of the Year after the senior helped guide a young Lady Rebel team to the 5A state championship. She recorded 56 hits and scored 46 times over the course of the season as one of the most productive batters on the Coast.
Finishing just behind Boudro in the poll was Pass Christian soccer standout Trey Roche with 40 percent of the vote.
Hancock softball’s Teegan DeWitt and Ocean Springs volleyball’s Rhys St. Amant were a close second and third behind Sanford.
