Long Beach has named a new boy’s soccer coach
Long Beach boy’s soccer has its new Head of Dynasty.
The reigning back-to-back-to-back state champions will be under the new guidance of Matthew DeFillips following school board approval on Tuesday.
DeFillips arrives from Cleveland Central where he led both soccer programs, the boy’s from 2017 and the girl’s from 2019.
“I’m excited for this incredible opportunity to serve in this community and school district that is so supportive of their soccer program,” DeFillips said in a press release. “I’m very aware of the recent success that the boys have achieved and am honored to be entrusted with leading the boys’ program into this new chapter.”
DeFillips replaces Andee Wilburn, who is now coaching the Lady Bearcats side.
