It’s time to vote for Sun Herald’s MS Coast Athlete of the Week for April 3
Gulfport once again flexed its strength at the statewide powerlifting championships, earning 63 team points while second-place Madison Central finished with a distant 22 points.
The Admirals, along with the Ocean Springs girl’s powerlifting team, join the baseball and softball stars in this week’s Athlete of the Week poll.
This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon on Monday, April 10, at www.sunherald.com.

- Gulfport boy’s powerlifting: Gulfport took home the 6A state championship in powerlifting over the weekend. It’s the Admirals’ sixth championship in seven years.
- Ocean Springs girl’s powerlifting: The Greyhounds also earned a state title in Jackson, with Emma Rowland leading the way.
- TJ Dunsford, East Central baseball: Dunsford tossed a one-hitter shutout with nine strikeouts in an 8-0 win over rival Vancleave.
- Carley Mataya, Pearl River Central softball: Mataya had five hits, two of which were doubles and one a home run. She drove in six runs in three games and scored six times.
- Logan Fontenelle, Biloxi baseball: Fontenelle had five hits and seven RBIs in the Indians’ series win over Gulfport.
