Long Beach tabs Kevin Hunt as new boy’s basketball coach
A new head Bearcat is moving down to the Coast.
The Long Beach school board has approved Kevin Hunt as the new boy’s basketball coach at LBHS.
Hunt has a diverse background in both coaching and administration, working at schools in Arkansas and Louisiana. Hunt most recently coached at East Jefferson, where he led the Warriors to the playoffs in each of his two seasons there.
“The Long Beach School District has concluded its coaching search, and it was quite an exciting process,” LBHS athletic director Shane Rutledge said in the school’s press release. “We had interest from many terrific basketball coaches.
“We know Coach will set high expectations for his players and accept no less than their best effort on and off the court,” he said.
Hunt also spent time as the dean of students at Sophie B. Wright Charter School in New Orleans, where he helped build the basketball program.
In the release, Hunt said he will lean on his experience building up a program when he comes to LBHS.
“My ultimate goal would be to win a state title,” he said. “But more importantly, to build a consistent, strong, self-sustaining program which would run from elementary students through high school.”
