It’s time to vote for Sun Herald’s MS Coast Athlete of the Week for January 3

Brand new year, brand new poll. Basketball season is hitting the final leg of the race as district play comes full swing in January.

This is not a scientific poll, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon on Monday, Jan. 9, at www.sunherald.com. You can also vote for the top cheer squad of the season here.

Get to know the Sun Herald Athlete of the Week nominees here:

  • Amir Abdul-Rauf, Gulfport boy’s basketball: Abdul-Rauf dropped 22 points in a 59-55 win over Pascagoula during the Holiday Classic.
  • Aujaylon Barron, Harrison Central boy’s basketball: Another Holiday Classic hero, Barron helped lead the Red Rebels to the final with a 35-point performance in a 65-62 win over Picayune.
  • Ty’Lah Whitlock, St. Martin boy’s basketball: Whitlock scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in thw Yellow Jackets’ 53-47 win over Stone.
  • Ziara Cato, Moss Point girl’s basketball: Cato scored 17 points and grabbed three rebounds in the Tigers’ win over Picayune.
  • Shaneal Corpuz, Biloxi girl’s basketball: The Indians were 2-0 last week and Corpuz’s 20 points against Booker T. Washington and 16 against LeFlore were big reasons why. She also hauled in 17 rebounds over the two games.
