Who was the Mississippi Coast’s best high school football player in 2022? Vote now.

It was a strong year for high school football on the Coast. The Lower Six sent a record four programs to the South State championship games and Picayune represented the area with another state title.

South Mississippi produced two Mr. Football award winners, as well as the state’s leader in passing and the state’s leader in rushing.

The winner of the poll will be recognized in the All-South Mississippi Football Team.

You can vote as many times as you like until the poll closes on Jan. 3 at noon. The poll is not scientific, and you can vote again by simply refreshing the page.

Get to know the nominees here:

  • Dante Dowdell, Picayune: The Oregon commit earned 5A Mr. Football honors and led the Maroon Tide to their second state title in a row. Dowdell rushed for 2,165 yards and a career-high 31 touchdowns.
  • Bray Hubbard, Ocean Springs: Hubbard took home the 6A Mr. Football award for the second time after another impressive season. The Alabama commit threw for over 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,700 while accounting for 41 scores.
  • Kaden Irving, Gautier: The Ole Miss baseball commit carried the Gators to new heights, throwing for a state-high 3,953 yards and 46 touchdowns.
  • Prince Cottonham, Gulfport: Cottonham had 47 tackles and led South Mississippi with eight interceptions. The junior also had 12 pass breakups and a pick-six.
  • John Peterson, Vancleave: Peterson became the state’s rushing champion in his first year as starter, picking up 2,616 yards and 34 touchdowns in leading Vancleave back to the postseason.
  • Chandler Chapman, St. Stanislaus: Chapman set the school record for rushing yards in a season with 1,833. Chapman found the end zone 17 times.
  • Connor Tice, Stone: Tice threw for over 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns, helping lead the Tomcats to the South State title game.
