Ocean Springs and Gulfport anchor All-Region 4-6A team
Ocean Springs claimed its second district title in a row and fourth since joining the sixth classification, carrying 6A South Mississippi to its first South State title game appearance since 2009.
The Greyhounds reached 12 wins for just the second time ever and first since 2004. It’s Gulfport that paces the region with All-MVP selections, however, with 11 to OSHS’s nine.
The Admirals enjoyed a 9-3 season and had their best regional record since 2019. Gulfport is now in search of a new leader following John Archie’s decision to step down.
Coach of the Year
Blake Pennock, Ocean Springs
Ocean Springs has improved in win total each year Pennock has been at the helm and has pushed its district record to 19-2 under the third-year leader. The Greyhounds are currently in their winningest three-year stretch in program history.
Player of the Year
Bray Hubbard, Ocean Springs
No surprise here. The Alabama commit earned his second 6A Mr. Football honor after setting career-highs in passing yards with 2,197 and in rushing with 1,760. Hubbard scored 41 touchdowns and grabbed three interceptions.
Offensive MVP
Jacob Palazzo, Gulfport
The senior threw for a career-high 1,977 yards and 11 touchdowns. Palazzo had the best game of his career in a 41-6 win over Hancock, throwing for 246 yards and a pair of scores. Palazzo is a Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. baseball commit.
Defensive MVP
Prince Cottonham, Gulfport
Cottonham was a quarterback’s nightmare this year, picking off eight passes and recording 12 pass deflections to go along with 49 stops. The junior had seven of his interceptions in the final seven games.
