Stone leads the way on the 2022 All-Region 8-4A team
Region 8-4A produced a historically successful Stone County football team. The Tomcats were district champs for the first time since 1994 and their athletes have been rewarded with the most selections to the coaches 2022 All-Region team.
Pass Christian, Moss Point and Greene County are all represented, as well, as the other three playoff representatives. Bay High comes in fifth with two selections missing the postseason.
Region Coach of the Year
John Feaster, Stone
Feaster led the Tomcats to history, winning three playoff games and playing for a South State championship for the first time since 1990. It’s Feaster’s second COY award, earning his first at the 5A level in 2016.
CO-MVPs
Jamarious Brown, Moss Point
Chasden Collins, Stone
Collins was Stone’s primary playmaker, hauling in 61 passes for over 800 yards and rushing for another 223 yards. The senior crossed the goal line 13 times and tallied 491 total return yards.
Brown was a do-it-all weapon for Moss Point, who used him in a variety of ways. The Ole Miss commit had 65 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks and 419 rushing yards.
Co-Offensive MVPs
Connor Tice, Stone
Taboris Charles, Moss Point
Connor Tice made his first year as the starting quarterback count. The junior threw for over 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns, including a 327-yard, 4-touchdown outing in the playoff win over Poplarville.
Charles put himself on the shortlist of names to watch next season with a breakout, 1,266-yard rushing campaign in his junior season.
Co-Defensive MVPs
Kaleb Raston, Moss Point
Bryton McInnis, Stone
Raston, a Mississippi Valley State baseball commit, finished his football career with a season that saw him rack up 98 tackles, 13 tackles for losses and four interceptions.
McInnis may have been the Coast’s most disruptive interior defensive lineman this year, making 85 stops and 20 tackles in the backfield. He also had a 35-yard fumble return touchdown.
