South Mississippi will be well represented at the volleyball state championships in Starkville.

Four schools from the Coast will be competing for an MHSAA title on Thursday and Friday at Mississippi State University. Long Beach, Pass Christian, Our Lady Academy and Resurrection Catholic all won South State championships Monday and have one final match ahead of them.

Gulfport and East Central were both South State runner-ups.

Long Beach

The Bearcats had to get by the aforementioned Hornets to punch their ticket to Starkville and it took five close sets to earn it.

Long Beach will face Lake Cormorant at 5 p.m on Thursday for the 5A championship. It will serve as a rematch of the 2020 state finals, where Lake Cormorant won in five sets.

Pass Christian

The Region 8-4A winner needed only three sets to dispatch Purvis in South State. It’s Pass Christian’s second straight season playing for the 4A title after dropping last year’s final match in three sets to Pontotoc.

A senior-heavy Pirates team will meet with the Caledonia Cavaliers on Thursday at 2 p.m.

Our Lady Academy

The 3A state championship will look familiar to many. It’s a rematch of last year’s meeting between Alcorn Central and the Crescents.

Our Lady dropped the title bout in three sets a year ago, but is back with leading-scorer and freshman Myah Favre and senior Anna Laura Williford. The match is set to start on Friday at 3 p.m.

Resurrection

Yet another team looking for redemption, the Eagles are back in the finals for the third straight season in search of the program’s second title.

Resurrection will have to face Ingomar on Friday at 11 a.m.
