Top high school football performances from week 1 in South Mississippi
The high school football season officially kicked off in South Mississippi this week with 15 games across the Coast.
These were the top performing players of the opening slate of games.
Top performers
- Duran Parish, Biloxi: The Vanderbilt commit had five receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown in the 21-17 loss to East Central.
- Kevin Rogers, D’Iberville: Rogers ran for 141 yards on only five carries in a 41-14 win over St. Stanislaus. He scored on a 50-yard run.
- Kaleb Booker, D’Iberville: Booker rushed for 134 yards on 18 carries and scored two touchdowns.
- Aziyon Abraham, D’Iberville: Abraham found the endzone twice, scoring from 1-yard out and from 59 yards. He finished with 118 all-purpose yards.
- Marcus Washington, D’Iberville: Washington had two interceptions and a forced fumble, leading a defense that allowed only 186 yards.
- Eli Smith, East Central: Smith toted the rock 20 times for 76 yards, scoring twice in a 21-17 Shrimp Bowl win over Biloxi. The Hornets ran for 203 team yards and did not attempt a single pass.
- Dylan Moran, Hancock: The Hawks’ new starting quarterback threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-0 win over Pearl River Central.
- Destin Coleman, Hancock: The senior tailback ran for 93 yards and just 7 touches and found the endzone twice.
- Christian Turner, Harrison Central: Turner threw for 144 yards with two touchdowns while adding 54 rushing yards in an 18-15 loss to Oak Grove.
- Amarion Ware, Harrison Central: Ware had five tackles, two tackles for loss, a safety and downed a punt at the 1-yard line.
Bray Hubbard, Ocean Springs: The senior amassed 315 total yards of offense and was responsible for three scores in the Greyhounds’ 31-13 win over Clinton.
Jeffery Rush, Pascagoula: Rush had four tackles for loss, three sacks, a rushing touchdown, blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.
Jaquez Alexander, Pass Christian: Alexander ran for 135 yards and four touchdowns in a 56-20 win over Long Beach.
Ladd Scriber, Pass Christian: Scriber completed seven of eight pass attempts for 181 yards and three touchdowns.
Jayden Acker, Pass Christian: Acker picked up 10 tackles, one tackle for loss and a sack.
Micah McKay, Pass Christian: McKay recorded eight tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown.
Dante Dowdell, Picayune: The Oregon commit picked up where he left off last season and found the endzone twice in a 21-7 win over Poplarville while pouring on 150 rushing yards.
Chris Davis, Picayune: Davis carried the ball 11 times for 100 yards.
- Daniel Pickens, Resurrection: The athlete was all over the field in a 35-0 win over St. Patrick. He rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns and picked off a pass on defense.
- Jaylon Dampeer, St. Martin: Dampeer ran for 100 yards and a touchdown in St. Martin’s 20-13 win over Stone.
- DK Jenkins, St. Martin: Jenkins threw for 192 yards in his Yellow Jackets debut, threw for a score and added 76 rushing yards plus a rushing touchdown.
- Noreel White, St. Martin: White caught four passes for 68 yards and a touchdown on offense. He registered five tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and picked off a pass on defense.
- Bryton McInnis, Stone: McInnis had 11 tackles and seven tackles for loss with two sacks against St. Martin.
- Daylon Collins, Stone: Collins rushed for 161 yards on just 19 carries.
- John Peterson, Vancleave: Peterson dominated in Vancleave’s 49-20 win over Greene County, rushing for 355 yards and six touchdowns.
- Hunter Parker, Vancleave: Parker ran the ball just 9 times but picked up 86 yards and a score.
- Jeremy Jones, West Harrison: Jones picked up 123 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-7 win over Bay High.
