High School Sports

I tried to hit against one of the best softball pitchers on the Coast. It didn’t end well.

Hancock High softball star Teegan DeWitt struck out 196 batters as a freshman during the 2022 campaign.

So, naturally, we at the Sun Herald decided to film myself trying to get a hit off of her. I was mic’d up for the occasion and offered my thoughts on what it’s like to stand in the batter’s box less than 45 feet from the hard-throwing DeWitt.

Spoiler alert: Every pitch felt like I was fighting for my life.

As expected, she made me look silly. I struck out on five pitches, swinging through a nasty elevated changeup. Then I struck out again, but this time in six pitches. I was improving.

It was on the third at-bat when I finally picked up a lazy flyball into right field and called it a day. I had successfully registered a hit against one of the Coast’s best... so long as there was no one in right field.
