Who was the best girl’s athlete of the spring season on the MS Coast? Vote now!

The spring semester in South Mississippi saw many athletes dominate their sport. Soccer on the Gulf Coast continued to take center stage at the state level while both softball and basketball were represented in the championship rounds.

Now that the dust has settled on the 2021 spring seasons, this is your chance to vote for the top girl’s athlete of the semester.

Athletes from Gulfport, Ocean Springs, Harrison Central, D’Iberville, Long Beach, Vancleave, Pearl River Central and East Central are on the docket.

You can vote as many times as you like and the poll closes on Tuesday, May 31 at 5 p.m.

  • Kate Smith, Gulfport soccer: An Ole Miss commit and three-time Sun Herald Player of the Year winner, Smith ended her high school career with a 36 goal, 21 assist-season.
  • Parker St. Amant, Ocean Springs soccer: St. Amant scored 21 goals as a sophomore on her way to earning All-State honors.
  • Julie Segroves, D’Iberville pole vault: Segroves has etched her name into the Mississippi record books as the top high school girl’s outdoor pole vaulter in the state’s history. She’s also a freshman.
  • Izzy Martin, Pearl River Central softball: Martin had a 1.307 OPS in her junior season, with 10 home runs in 30 hits. She scored 32 times in 28 games.
  • Bryn Daughtery, Vancleave softball: Daughtery made the most of her senior season, batting .439 with 35 RBIs while also pitching a 1.71 ERA.
  • Lauren Brooks, East Central softball: Brooks led East Central to the 5A state title series with a 1.85 ERA on the mound and a .306 batting average at the plate.
  • Brooklyn Biancamano, Long Beach track and field: Earned three individual 5A state titles in distance running. Biancamano is committed to Arkansas.
  • Hayleigh Breland, Harrison Central basketball: Breland earned Sun Herald Player of the Year honors after averaging 15 points, 8 assists and 7 steals per game as a senior. She is signed to play at Jackson State.
