A Biloxi High football star commits to an SEC school, a dream since he was 7
Another South Mississippi star is heading to the SEC.
Biloxi’s Duran Parish committed Sunday to play football for the Vanderbilt Commodores.
The two-sport star boast offers in football from Mississippi State and South Alabama and a bevy of basketball offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Wichita State, Southern Miss and Mississippi State.
Parish grew up a Vandy fan, which led to his decision to don the “V” over the others.
“I’ve been wanting to go to Vanderbilt since I was 7 because of their baseball program,” Parish told the Sun Herald. “Football took me so I went with it.”
Parish joins a Commodores class of 2023 that currently has five commitments. He’s the first wide receiver to commit to head coach Clark Lea’s program.
The 6-foot-2 target made his decision early in the recruiting process to avoid any added pressures during his senior year.
“Stress free, stress free,” Parish said. “Everybody has been asking me where I’m going to go since 10th grade and I didn’t know. Now I know.”
Parish caught 41 passes for over 600 yards last season.
