Long Beach names new girl’s basketball coach. She’s in the Ole Miss Hall of Fame.
Long Beach High School has found a new leader for its girl’s basketball program.
Jacqueline Martin-White was unanimously approved to be the school’s new head coach Tuesday by the Board of Trustees.
Martin-White is replacing Christopher Odom, who is transferring to Long Beach Middle School as Assistant Principal.
“I’m excited to bring my playing and coaching experience to the program and offer young ladies the opportunity to connect with someone who can help them reach their full potential,” Martin-White said in a press release. “My passion and love for the game of basketball will be evident in my development of young, upcoming players.”
Martin-White arrives after coaching at Hinds Community College since 2018 and at Warren Central High School prior to that.
She played at Ole Miss, where she earned All-SEC honors and is inducted into the Ole Miss Sports Hall of Fame. Martin-White spent one year as an assistant coach at Ole Miss.
“Coach White has had a great deal of success on the court from her days as an All-SEC performer to her coaching career,” incoming athletic director Shane Rutledge said. “Her extensive experience coaching 6A and college basketball will benefit the young ladies of our program tremendously.”
Long Beach also hired a new football coach in January.
