The Mississippi Coast sent five teams to the soccer state championships this weekend and dominated the competition with four wins and four trophies.

Two girls teams and another pair of boys teams left the Jackson metro with brand new hardware behind MVP-level performances.

These four athletes helped lead their teams in the title game, and it’s time to vote one of them as Sun Herald’s athlete of the week award.

  • Kennedy Leverett, Our Lady Academy: Kennedy scored the lone regulation goal against St. Andrews for the Crescents and then scored the winning penalty kick to hand OLA the Class I title.
  • Morgan Pickering, Stone High girls: Morgan is responsible for two goals in the 4A title game, the first girls soccer championship in school history.
  • Dylan Kippes, Long Beach boys: Dylan scored a goal an earned MVP honors for Long Beach in their second straight 5A title victory.
  • Christian Bourgeois, St. Stanislaus: Christian gave the Rock-A-Chaws their third consecutive Class I title by scoring the lone goal of the game.

This poll is not scientific, and you can vote as many times as you’d like until voting ends at noon on Friday.
