3 South MS football teams are in high school playoff games this week. What to know.
Three Coast teams remain alive in the high school football playoffs and all three are hosting games Friday night.
Ocean Springs will play Oak Grove inside Greyhound Stadium against in the second round of the 6A tournament.
The Greyhounds are playing for an appearance in the south state title game, a position no 6A coastal team has been in since OSHS did so in 2009.
Ocean Springs is lead by 6A Mr. Football Bray Hubbard at quarterback. Hubbard and the Greyhounds are facing a Warriors team with a 9-2 record and coming off a 33-7 win over Gulfport.
The Picayune Maroon Tide are facing the Brookhaven Panthers in the second round of the 5A playoffs. Picayune is riding an eight-game win streak into the contest.
A win would place the Maroon Tide in the state semifinals for the third time in the last four years.
Running back Dante Dowdell ran for 211 yards against Hattiesburg in the 35-13 round one victory and is looking for more against the Panthers.
In the 4A bracket, Poplarville plays host to Mendenhall in the quarterfinals. With the win over Moss Point last week, the Hornets clinched their fifth 10-win season in the past five years.
Head coach Jay Beech has had PHS in the state championship game for three years in a row but have yet to leave with a trophy. The Hornets are two wins away from once again playing for their first ever state title.
All games are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
