Hancock High celebrates large class of athletes on Signing Day 2021
Hancock High School held its signing day last Friday and had nine student-athletes put pen to paper on their national letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the next level.
Denise Ladner, Hancock County School District business administrator, said she doesn’t think she’s seen so many athletes sign at one time at HHS. In 2017, the Kiln school celebrated a “monster” signing class of seven athletes.
Pearl River Community College is on the receiving end of three Hawks athletes’ letters. Blaine Knight is heading there for basketball, Maddie Cuevas for soccer and Klair Cuevas for soccer.
Ryan Ladner and Brandon King are heading to East Mississippi Community College to play baseball.
Cheyenne Tyson signed with Southwest Mississippi Community College to play softball, while Karlie Denius will play soccer at East Central Community College.
The Hawks are sending two athletes to four-year universities. Madelyn Ladner is heading to William Carey University to play basketball and Katelynn Altese signed her intent to play golf at Troy University in Alabama.
“Today is a great day for Hancock athletics,” Jamie Sisco, HHS athletic director, said. “These student athletes should be proud of their accomplishments and all they have done for our school. Now the hard part comes for us, replacing these guys as we move forward.”
